There's plenty to keep you busy here. The Vézère valley is dotted with prehistoric attractions, like the UNESCO World Heritage Sites at the town of Les Eyzies or the cave of Lascaux. As you explore the 1,001 castles scattered around Périgord Noir, your journey back in time will take you from the Stone Age to the Medieval era. When you stay at the 3-star La Sagne campsite in Vitrac, you'll be able to choose between renting a furnished tent or a mobile home. This is the ideal campsite for water lovers, as it has direct access to the Dordogne River, as well as a covered, heated swimming pool. Which will you choose, the river or the pool? There's also a grocery store stocked with local products, in addition to the bar and a snack bar, where you can relax.

The 3-star Le Temps de Vivre campsite in Salignac-Eyvigues is a small campsite nestled deep in the woods. A dream spot for hikers, it's also close to a decadent spa centre. The whole family will have a great time here, with rental bungalows and mobile homes that can comfortably house up to 8 people.

The 4-star Les Berges de la Dordogne campsite in Trémolat is halfway between Bergerac and Sarlat, and it gives you river access for a morning swim. There are shady pitches for your comfort, and there's family entertainment in the summer. If the river and the on-site swimming pool aren't enough for you, you'll also find a water ski club and canoe base here.

Want to get away from it all? Try the 3-star Les Nauves campsite in Belvès. The grounds are set in 5 hectares of nature in the heart of the Périgord Noir, just what you need to let your worries drift away. Set up camp on one of the large pitches in a quiet, pastoral setting near Sarlat-la-Canéda. There's also an on-site restaurant, where the chef will give you a taste of the finest local cuisine - what more could you want from a holiday in France?

For an action-packed holiday, head to the 4-star Les Ondines campsite, located in the Lot at the entry of the Périgord Noir. With flowers blooming everywhere, this campsite is the perfect retreat for peaceful evenings. You'll need the rest, as this campsite is in the perfect location for exploring the top attractions of both the Lot and the Dordogne. Spend your days hopping from site to site, then head back to the campsite to relax in the heated swimming pool.

To discover the enchanting medieval city of Sarlat, stay at the 3-star Le Tiradou campsite in Saint-Vincent-de-Cosse, located very close to the Dordogne. Enjoy a gourmet meal in Sarlat and then head back to the campsite, with its luxurious heated outdoor pool.
