Holidays in Morbihan and the Gulf of Morbihan
How's this for a fun piece of trivia? Morbihan is the only department in France with a name in the Breton language. The word Mor-bihan means little sea, which isn't really accurate - on the Atlantic coast, the ocean feels endless here! While you're camping in Morbihan, we recommend paying a visit to the spectacular castle at Josselin, as well as the Château de Suscinio in Sarzeau, where you'll find great examples of French architecture from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Have you made your Breton bucket list yet? Our top tips include visiting Brocéliande, Carnac, Lorient, La Trinité-sur-Mer, Pontivy and Le Faquet. You'll also find the charming little town of Rochefort-en-Terre, which is only half an hour from Vannes. With a visit to this stunning town, you can see for yourself whether you agree with those who voted this as the most beautiful village in France.
Vannes is one of the most interesting places to visit while you're staying in one of our campsites in Morbihan. Explore the historic centre, with its mighty ramparts, the cathedral of Saint Pierre the Henri IV Square. You can also go back in time with a trip to Poul-Fetan, where you'll see what life was like in a 19th-century Breton village. From there, take a short cruise and head toward Belle-Ile en Mer or the Rhuys peninsula on a boat for a total change of scenery.
Admiring architecture is fun, but if you're travelling with the kids, you probably want something a bit livelier. No problem! Visit the animal and botanical park of Parcabout de Branféré, the zoological park of Pont-Scorff, the butterfly garden, the aquarium at Vannes, the park of P'tit Délire, the Universe of the Poet Ferrailleur, and the submarine Flore S645 in Lorient. Phew! That's enough to tire out even the most energetic youngster - but if you're still craving more, Morbihan also has plenty of marinas, beaches, water sports, spas and thermal centres, cruises and sea crossings. If you want to see even more of the Breton peninsula, we also have campsites in Finistère.
You'll never forget your fabulous camping holiday in Morbihan.
