Take the Porte du Boulevard to enter the medieval city, followed by the Porte du Rou, which still has a traditional drawbridge. Once you're inside the city walls, you'll find a maze of narrow streets, each packed with shops and houses from the 15th and 16th centuries. Among them is the old church of Saint Pierre, the patron saint of fishermen. You can spend hours exploring all the nooks and crannies of this medieval town before you finally start the main event: climbing the steps that lead to the abbey.
When you've conquered the 350 steps, you'll be there at last: the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel. Turn around to enjoy one of the best views you're ever likely to see - the spectacular bay, where the sky, the sea and the land meet. When you've had enough of the views, you can explore the interior of the abbey and discover the old rooms where the monks lived during medieval times.
