Well worth a visit Nearby Camping Les Fauvettes Occitanie
A trip on the Cévennes Vélo-rail, a sort of four-wheeled, bicycle-operated railway handcar that runs from Thoiras to Générargues along a disused train track. A great way to discover the Cévennes countryside en famille, each group must include at least one adult but no previous experience or particular skill is required.
Something different
A day canyoning with our partner company “Bambou Canyon”. This water-borne trek is a great way to discover the flora and fauna of the Gardon gorges.
Don’t miss
A trip on the steam train that runs the 13km from Anduze to Saint-Jean-du-Gard and enjoy its elegant old carriages and the lovely countryside of the Gardon valley. The train stops at the Jardin Botanique de la Bambouseraie des Cévennes, a huge Zen garden spread over 3.5 acres with a wide variety of bamboos and other species. You’ll need all of the two hours until the next train to explore the whole of this lovely park. And don’t miss a visit to the Grotte de Trabuc and its geological curiosities, which include 1200m of underground galleries, waterfalls and lakes.
Walking/cycling route
The 3h walk from the campsite to the top of Les Capélans and back via the Cistercian Monastère de la Paix-Dieu where you can purchase a range of locally made products including essential oils, candles and rocamandines or chocolate-covered marzipan sweets.
Driving route
A drive out along the Corniche des Cévennes by car or motorbike. This winding hilltop road than runs from Saint-Jean-du-Gard to Florac offers a series of stunning views across the Cévennes as it crosses the Borgne valley and the Les Faisses, Saint-Pierre and Le Rey passes.
