Camping de Mars - The green hills and rolling vineyards of the Loire gorges

4-star campsite at Cordelle close to Roanne in Loire, Auvergne, heated outdoor pool, children’s and evening entertainment, camping pitches, mobile homes, chalets and all-canvas-bungalows to rent.

Set on the banks of the River Loire close to Roanne between Lyons and Clermont Ferrand on a pretty peninsula formed by the Loire’s largest meander, this little campsite enjoys a wonderful natural setting. Particularly popular with walkers and cyclists, anglers, history buffs and foodies, it also provides numerous opportunities to take to the water and enjoy the wonderful views and unspoilt landscapes of the Loire gorges. The campsite itself offers a wide range of services, making it the ideal place for a relaxing holiday for all the family.

Things to see, things to do, nearby

Wine route

The wines of the Beaujolais’s Côte Roannaise are made principally using the Gamay grape. Céline and Fabrice offer the chance to find out more about them at weekly tastings organised by local wine producers. You can visit the various local wine producers who partner the campsite, including Domaine Sérol, Willenbucher and Vignoble de Champagny, all year round. You’ll also find these wines on sale in the shop and on the brasserie menu.

Fishing

Set on the Mars peninsula overlooking the Loire gorges, this unpretentious little campsite makes an ideal holiday destination for anglers. Considered a prime fishing location for pike, zander and catfish, it also offers beautiful scenery and the peace and quiet in which to enjoy it. The campsite has a locked tackle store complete with fridge and lots of local information.

Motorbike

What better way to explore the lovely Loire countryside that by motorbike? As well as some gorgeous views, its highways and byways offer a wealth of cultural, historical and food riches just waiting to be discovered. Back at the campsite you can be sure of a quiet and restful rural setting where you can park your bike right outside your rental accommodation or tent. And, of course, we’re also an accredited ‘Relais Motard’ campsite.

Water sports

Le Camping de Mars awaits you amid the lush and verdant countryside of the Loire gorges. Set on the banks of the river on the Mars peninsula, it offers a range of water sports activities, ideal for a holiday outing on the river with family or friends, and its own canoe and stand-up paddle board rental service. You’ll also find a rowing centre just 500m from the site, should you fancy widening your water sports horizons.

Bike

Set on the banks of the Loire, the site makes the ideal base for exploring the local area and its rural charms by bike, while the quiet local lanes offer a some stunning views over the Loire gorges. And don’t forget, we’ve been an accredited ‘Accueil Vélo’ campsite since 2019 and provide the high-quality service and facilities that go with it.
