Well worth a visit Nearby Camping du Lac de La Thésauque Occitanie
A visit to Nailloux’s 6-bladed windmill. Measuring 16m high and inspired by its more traditional predecessors, it offers a fascinating introduction to the wind and the workings of a windmill, the art of milling and flour-making and the various cereal crops used.
Something different
Explore the Canal du Midi. Hire a barge at the new Port-Lauragais visitor centre and travel west towards Toulouse for a day or enjoy pootling around the local area for a few hours.
Don’t miss
Don’t miss the Château de Montgeard, the Canal du Midi, the Abbaye de Saint-Papoul, Castelnaudary, Toulouse and Carcassonne – a range of tourist sites as interesting as they are different.
Walking/cycling route
A signposted walking trail takes you right round the banks of the Lac de la Thésauque, explaining the local flora as it goes (approx. 6km). The green way and cycle path that run along the former tow path of the Canal du Midi towards Toulouse make a great way to explore the local countryside. Don’t miss the lovely local villages including Avignonet-Lauragais, Villefranche-de-Lauragais and Saint-Rome.
Driving route
From Montgeard, head towards Nailloux, then Villefranche-de-Lauragais, Caraman, Saint-Ferréol and Fanjeaux to explore the Lauragais and its delicious local specialities.
