The best things to see and do in Colmar
On the Alsace wine route, on the Franco-German border, the city of Colmar is a charming old town. Wander its cobbled streets, lined with half-timbered houses, or go for a walk along its flowery canals. Once a fishing district, the Quai de la Poissonnerie, known as Little Venice, is now one of the most romantic places in the city. Take a boat trip along the canals and feel like you've stepped back in time, discovering a simpler and more peaceful era during your camping holiday in Colmar.
As you visit the city, you can spend your time admiring charming architecture, such as the Maison Pfister, built in 1537, or the former customs house, Koïfhus, which dates back to 1480. The Saint-Martin collegiate church, built in the 13th and 14th centuries, is another jewel in the crown of Old Colmar, a true masterpiece of the Gothic school.
If you're keen on cultural visits, you'll also find plenty of museums in Colmar to visit, including the delicious Chocolate Museum! The Pays de Colmar, also known as "l'Alsace essentielle", is full of picturesque villages and celebrated vineyards. Head to la Maison du Fromage to explore the world of local cheeses — and yes, there are tastings available! Further afield, don't miss out on a trip into the beautiful Vosges, which leads you to Gérardmer Lake.
The three châteaux of Ribeauvillé, the Hohlandsbourg château and the Haut-Eguisheim châteaux are just some of the historical sites you should definitely add to your list when visiting the Colmar region. Don't miss out on the incredible town of Neuf-Brisach, entirely designed by Vauban with a fortified star-shaped plan, or the town of Mulhouse, known as the city of a hundred chimneys.
There are many sightseeing routes you can follow around the Pays de Colmar, discovering charming villages along the way.
