Try a parachute jump at the aerodrome close to the campsite. Vendée Evasion Parachutisme in Les Sables-d’Olonne is western France’s leading professional sky diving centre. After a 15-minute briefing on the ground, a 15-minute flight takes you up to 4000m and a leap out into the void below!
Don’t miss
Vendée’s famous theme parks. Visit the Zoo des Sables which houses some 280 animals, the 7th Continent Aquarium showcasing over 500 marine species in three different habitats and, of course, Le Puy du Fou with its magnificent shows, full of adventure for all the family.
Walking/cycling route
Take one of the footpaths which run directly from the campsite towards the coast, stopping after about 800m to admire the Abbey of St Jean d'Orbestier. Continue through the nature reserve towards the Bois Saint Jean, an area of woodland perched on a rocky dune, then follow the coastal path for 800m to reach Cayola Bay with its magnificent shingle dune and panoramic views. From here you can continue along the coast or head back to the campsite.
Driving route
A historical drive south. Setting off towards Talmont-St-Hilaire, your first stop is the listed Château de Talmont, an 11C fortress which hosts a number of medieval entertainments in the summer months and a market every Thursday. Continue towards the oyster beds of La Guittière where you can pause to sample the local produce and take a walk along the magnificent estuary of the River Payré.
