Well worth a visit Nearby Camping Le Rochelongue Occitanie

Explore the centre of Agde and the Musée de l’Ephèbe underwater archaeology museum. Tracing the history of the town back over 2000 years to Antiquity, the museum displays a number of remains retrieved from the sea by fishermen.

Something different

Take a boat trip on the Canal du Midi aboard one of the Bateaux du Soleil barges that set out from the entrance to the campsite. Trips range from a few hours with lunch to a whole day on the lovely Canal du Midi.

Don’t miss

Visit Fort Brescou, a former military stronghold and later a prison set on a volcanic island off Cap d’Agde.

Walking/cycling route

A cycle ride along the Canal du Midi leaving from the Round Lock in Agde towards Béziers, the Fonserade locks and the lovely vineyards of the Languedoc. Or towards Marseillan with a stop at the Port des Mazets oyster farm on the Etang de Thau.

Driving route

Head out to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, a small medieval village on the Way of St James now classed among the “Plus Beaux Villages de France”. Don’t miss the Abbaye de Gellone, a fine example of Languedoc Romanesque art and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue towards Aniane and cross the Devil’s Bridge, thought to be one of the oldest medieval bridges in France, which marks the start of the famous Hérault gorges. This is a great place for a swim from the lifeguarded beach. Before returning to the campsite, don’t miss the opportunity to visit a local wine producer and sample a glass of Languedoc’s AOC wine and other regional specialties.
