A narrow lane winds through the salt marshes to Loix. It may be the smallest village and the smallest port on the Île de Ré, but it’s also the most secluded. And it has so much to offer: the fresh water of the pool and jacuzzi and the salt waters off the gently curving beach; the colourful market displays of fruit, vegetables and fish; the narrow village streets with their characteristic wallflowers and pastel greens. And why not try a little beach gleaning for some tasty seafood or a gentle cycle ride around the island?

The Green Key label, an accreditation that says it all

For Océane, whether it's worth preserving resources is a question he no longer asks himself. This is an absolute necessity. So, at camping Les Ilates, which has the Green Key label:

  • They are saving water by commissioning a chlorine generator using electrolysis of salt from the salt marshes.
  • Biodiversity is protected by the installation of beehives on the campsite, and their honey is sold on the site.
  • They manage their food through short supply chains, with the creation of a vegetable garden, an orchard and a grocery shop selling only local produce.
  • They have thought hard about energy efficiency, and have entered into a partnership with ADEME to implement energy-saving measures.
