Well worth a visit Nearby Camping Le Pessac Occitanie

Spend a day picnicking at the Lac de Saint-Ferréol in Revel, an outdoor leisure park where you can swim, take a pedalo out on the water lake or walk or cycle around the lake. It also offers an unusual view of a mini waterfall and a geyser on the banks of the lake. And don’t miss the Canal du Midi museum which explains Louis XIV’s role in the construction of this famous waterway.

Something different

A trip on a horse-drawn boat in Castres. Enjoying a tour of Castres on the water, you could almost imagine that you’re in Venice! An impression underlined by the brightly coloured houses that line the banks of the River Agout. Castres is also full of good restaurants with something for every budget. If you’d like to sample some of the local cuisine, you’ll find the food on offer at La Table des Ateliers fresh and very reasonably priced (no menu, plat du jour changes daily – booking required).

Don’t miss

A visit to the town of Albi with its episcopal settlement, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, the unmissable Cathedral of Saint Cécile and the Palais de la Berbie. The town’s cobbled streets are full of cafés and restaurants, ideal for lunch or dinner. Savoury specialities include cassoulet, Lautrec pink garlic soup and duck breast, while those with a sweet tooth can sample some fouace, a crown-shaped cake, poumpet, a lemon-flavoured pastry or the croustade fruit pie – all local delicacies.

Walking/cycling route

The Héric Gorges – just 1h15 away by car – offer a cool and refreshing destination once the summer temperatures arrive. A number of signposted walking routes, equally suitable for bicycles, make an ideal way to explore the area and you can swim in the crystal clear waters of the area’s various natural pools. The rocky landscape is reminiscent of the springs of Corsica. Facilities include picnic tables so this is a great place for a family day out.

Driving route

A tour of the medieval villages of the Tarn. Start out at Castelnau-de-Montmiral, a medieval settlement high up above the Tarn valley and surely one of France’s loveliest villages. The area boasts a number of magnificent walks and a local honey producer whose produce you can taste. You can then take your pick of the surrounding villages – Puycelsi and Cordes-sur-Ciel both offer stunning views.
