The rich cultural and historical heritage of Centre–Val de Loire

It was here in the very heart of France, seduced by the serene elegance of the River Loire, that the French kings chose to build their most beautiful Renaissance chateaux. So pick a campsite in the Loire Valley in France, visit some of the many manor houses, halls and family seats and enjoy a little style on your camping holiday with family or friends.

A stay at one of our campsites in Centre–Val de Loire promises the chance to travel back in time and explore the region’s rich natural and historical heritage. Synonymous with the Loire Valley, the Châteaux of the Loire offer a rich and fascinating cultural tapestry which guides us through the key events in French history from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.

Immaculately husbanded and highly productive, this great garden valley is also home to some great wines which you can sample as you travel west from the gentle hills of Sancerre, across the plateaux of the Touraine and through the terraced vineyards of Chinon and Bourgueil to finish in Saumur. Explore Anjou and the Touraine on a camping holiday in the Loire Valley. Between them, these two historic regions boast more than a thousand fascinating forts and stately homes which, though less famous than the main châteaux of the Loire Valley, form an essential part of this historical landscape. 19 "must see" in total, each with its own exceptional and universal beauty including the splendours of Chambord and the watery beauty of Chenonceau, they run the length of the Loire Valley. Further back in time, the Middle Ages also left their mark in the shape of the great cathedrals of Chartres and Orléans and the winding mediaeval streets of Old Bourges.
