A trip to Fort Boyard. Considered impossible by Vauban, Napoleon I nevertheless ordered the construction of this impressive fort, a huge logistical and engineering challenge at the time given its position on man-made rock foundations built on a sandbank. A visit to Port des Salines. In a beautiful natural setting, the ecomuseum sets out to explain the history of salt farming on the Ile d’Oléron. Moving from hut to hut, you will learn about the skills of the local salt workers and see the tools of their trade, understand the current renaissance in salt farming and see the salt marshes through the seasons.

A ride on the Petit Train. The Saint-Trojan tourist train takes you on a 12km round trip to the wild Pertuis de Maumusson straits with their fine, sandy beaches and pine woods inaccessible by car.

The Ile d'Oléron and the Marennes Basin boast almost 160 km of cycle paths offering a range of different routes.
Driving route
The Chassiron Lighthouse (36km). The fishing port of La Cotinière and its daily fish auction (15km).
